45. Joseph Alfred Lomas (Joseph Lomas5, William Lomax4, James Lomax3, Charles Lomax2, Charles Lomax1) was born 7 SEP 1870 in Newcastle, Jamaica, British West Indies, and died 26 SEP 1944 in Hamilton, ON, Canada.

Passenger records indicate Joseph Alfred came to New York, N.Y. with his Father, Mother and Brother on 05 May, 1879 on a ship named "The Queen". His name was spelled "LOOMIS". Presumably his Father had to migrate to Canada in order to collect his British Army pension as Canada is a Commonwealth country. The 1921 Canadian Census indicates the family migrated to Canada in 1881.

18 years after his Father's death, the 1920 US Census indicates Joseph Alfred re-entered the USA in 1919 for a short time with his wife Sarah, daughter Elsie and Son John. However, with the 1921 Canadian Census, the record indicates Joseph Alfred had moved back into Canada as they were living at 21 Summitt Avenue in Hamilton.

Joseph Alfred was married on 24 December 1906 to Sarah Alice Wakeham (1875 - 1944) in Hamilton. His brother Richard Lomas and Maggie Kelly were the witnesses. His marriage records indicate he was of Roman catholic denomination. He is buried at Woodland Cemetery in Hamilton, ON. Joseph Alfred Lomas had resided in Hamilton since childhood and was a valuable employee (tackmaker) of the Steel Company of Canada Ltd. (STELCO) for over half a century.

Sarah Alice Wakeham was born 21 MAR 1875 in Hamilton, ON. Her Father was John Mitchelmore Wakeham (Oct 8, 1826 - Sept. 1st, 1895, Episcopalian ). He was a native of Devonshire, England. Her Mother, also a native of Devonshire, was Mary Ann Richards (Sept. 2, 1832 - Aug. 9th 1903). Her marriage records indicate she was Anglican. This fact could lead one to believe there was a constant "religious tension" within the home as religion was a very important issue in those days.

Sarah Alice died April 14, 1944 in Hamilton, ON. She is also buried at Woodland Cemetery in Hamilton, Ontario beside her husband's remains.

She was born 22 NOV 1887 in Hamilton, ON and died 14 JUL 1966 in Hamilton, ON. She is buried at The Holy Sepulchre Roman Catholic Cemetery in Hamilton, ON.

He married Valeria (Valerie) Helen Goski, the daughter of Vincent John Goski and Caroline Goski on 20 NOV 1944 in Hamilton, ON. Shortly after his parents died and Joseph was born, the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan in the winter of 1947-48. Their first house location in Regina was 1854 Toronto Street. As the years passed and the family was growing, they moved to 1777 Wallace St. in 1952. This house is one of the oldest homes in the City and is still standing today! Tax records indicate it was built in 1910. In 1919 it was the Capital Flour & Feed Co. owned by the Zaharik Family. It was rebuilt in 1920 and further construction of a double dwelling was completed in 1929. The Lomas Family rented from Jacob Schlotter. In 1959 the family moved to 1938 McIntyre St. In 1963, the Lomas Family finally resided at 2955 Athol St. in Regina. John (Jack) Joseph Lomas passed away 17 AUG 1972 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He is buried at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at Regina. Valerie was born 25 NOV 1922 at Cedoux, Saskatchewan, and passed away 7 FEB 1993 at Regina. She is buried beside her first husband John (Jack) Lomas at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at Regina.
